Our Approach

Cosmetic Surgery Institute is concerned with harmonizing the breasts in proportion to the body as well as alleviating the painful symptoms of heavy breasts. To do this, our surgeons spend a significant amount of time with each patient during the initial consultation to prepare a detailed surgical plan. This process typically involves taking several measurements in order to assess the correct breast-to-hip ratio for your body type.

Our surgeons pay very special attention to important details during your surgery such as incision placement and nipple repositioning. We typically use an inferior pedicle technique for optimal preservation of sensation and milk ducts. We use an anchor-shaped incision and perform all the tissue closures in multiple support layers, allowing the best healing and narrowest possible scars. Incisions are hidden in inconspicuous locations and can be improved with laser treatments.

Your Choices

How much improvement can I expect?

The degree of improvement from your breast reduction surgery will depend on your personal goals and physical characteristics, such as skin quality and elasticity. Typically, however, most of our patients experience a dramatic improvement from the painful symptoms associated with large breasts, such as back pain, shoulder soreness, neck stiffness, and skin irritations. Many women enjoy a wider range of physical activities after breast reduction surgery and no longer suffer from painful bra strap indentations.

Does insurance cover breast reduction?

Insurance-based breast reduction relieves health-related issues resulting from overly large breasts, including tension headaches, and chronic neck and back ache. Overall, breast reduction can improve a person's general health by increasing mobility and ability to exercise. Many health insurance plans will cover all or part of the surgery. We would be happy to help you determine your insurance coverage for this procedure. Most insurance companies require a referral from a chiropractor or gynecologist.

Can my breasts also be lifted?

Yes. A breast reduction surgery from Cosmetic Surgery Institute almost always includes a breast lift to reposition the breast and nipple to a more attractive, youthful position. Your breast lift is performed at the same time of your breast reduction surgery.

Is liposuction used?

Whether or not liposuction is needed depends on the ratio of fat-to-breast tissue. For some, liposuction alone may provide sufficient enhancements while others may also require removal of the breast tissue. Your surgeon will explain what steps will be necessary during your surgery at the time of your consultation.

What to Expect

During your procedure, you will receive general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation for increased comfort. Your surgeon will make small incisions through which excess fat, glandular tissue and skin are removed. Liposuction may also be used to assist with fat removal. The underlying breast tissue is then reshaped and lifted to a higher position.

After your procedure, a support garment may be provided to help the breasts conform to their new shape. Your breasts will be tender and sore for the first few days, but will improve with time. You will be asked to refrain from strenuous activity for 4 to 6 weeks but can return to work after 1 to 2 weeks.

Enhancing Your Look

Women who visit us for breast reduction are often interested in a breast lift to improve the position of the nipple and breast. Liposuction is also chosen by many women who want to reduce unwanted fat in other areas of the body, such as the abdomen, buttock, or thighs. In addition, laser skin resurfacing is frequently used after surgery to lighten the appearance of scars.
